GUIDE · FACE SHAPE & PROPORTION

Which haircut works with your face shape?

Round, square and oval are useful starting points, not fixed rules. Forehead width, jaw, profile, density and beard all affect where a haircut should add height or preserve weight.

SHORT ANSWER

A face-aware haircut looks for balance: it adds visual height when the face reads wide, keeps more weight at the sides when the face reads long, and avoids over-emphasizing an already strong angle. The best assessment uses both front and side views with your hair in its natural texture.

CHOOSE

Guidelines, not formulas

01

Round face

Some height with controlled sides can create a longer visual line.

02

Square face

Crisp lines can emphasize the jaw, while added texture can soften it.

03

Long face

Avoiding excessive height and keeping some side weight helps restore balance.

04

Oval face

Many shapes work; texture, hairline and daily style become the main criteria.

05

Heart or triangular face

Weight at the top, temples and beard can redistribute visible width.

01

Your profile can change the recommendation

Two people in the same face-shape category can have very different foreheads, chins or crowns. The way a haircut connects into the beard and follows the back of the head becomes much clearer from the side.

That is why one straight-on photo does not always provide enough information. A useful consultation checks all four angles before choosing fade height or top length.

02

Texture decides what the shape can do

Afro, curly, straight and very thick hair do not create the same volume at the same measured length. A recommendation must account for spring, density and cowlicks or the intended shape may disappear after the first wash.

Curls
Natural volume can add height without removing all the support at the sides.
Thick straight hair
Targeted weight removal prevents a helmet shape or sides that kick out.
Finer hair
Keeping areas of shadow may create more presence than taking the fade too high.
03

A beard can complete the balance

More length below the chin can extend a wider face, while a little more weight at the beard's sides can support a long face. These are options, not requirements; natural density and realistic maintenance still set the useful limits.

FAQ

The questions left.

How do I know my exact face shape?

Compare the relative width of your forehead, cheekbones and jaw with the overall length. An approximate category is enough to start.

Is a celebrity reference photo useful?

Yes for showing intent, but the length and structure still need to fit your density, growth and proportions.

Should the beard follow the same approach?

It can help balance the face as long as its shape respects your natural density and preferred maintenance.

Is the consultation an extra charge?

No. It is part of the service. Typical prices are around CAD 35–40; check booking for the current amount.
